Fairness

The Senate screwed the District of Columbia.

Republicans in the SenaIMG_0432te intentionally labeled the District as a territory for Covid-19 relief funding which meant the District was shortchanged by $750,000,000. Yes, $750 MILLION!!! Unlike residents of the territories we, 700,000+ the people in DC, pay federal income taxes and contribute more in federal taxes than 22 states. Our treatment in relief funding is unfair, unjust, and purposefully vindictive.

Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) & Tom Carper (D-DE) are leading the effort to gain fair funding for D.C. in subsequent relief bills but they need our help. Three key Senators on the Committee that has “oversight” over the District have yet to sign on to the letter Senators Van Hollen and Carper wrote requesting fair funding nor have they signed on to the D.C. statehood bill (S. 631).

Please take 10 minutes today to contact these Senate offices (and family and friends in their states) and ask them to take a stand for FAIRNESS FOR THE PEOPLE IN DC. Your message can be short and sweet:

“Please support fairness for the 700,000 people in DC by calling on Senate leadership to ensure fair funding for the District of Columbia and support fair voting rights by cosponsoring the D.C. statehood bill.”
