Unity & Thanks

On Friday, April 10th, between 5-7pm let’s take the traditional Happy Hour time and turn it into a virtual two hours of giving thanks and showing unity across the District. These are perilous times making it even more important to unite and give thanks.

First and foremost, we hope you are staying safe and healthy by social distancing, teleworking, home schooling, and washing your hands! Please continue to stay home but also stay informed and updated by going to www.coronavirus.dc.gov

Second, this is both a tough time from a public health perspective but also financially for many of our neighbors. There are great groups around D.C. providing food and other essential services to our neighbors in need such as Capital Area Foodbank, D.C. Central Kitchen, Bread for the City, CentroNia, Greater D.C. Daiperbank, World Central Kitchen and more so if you have the means to donate to them please do so before Friday at 7pm as they are on the front lines helping those most in need.

Third, let’s co-opt the Friday Happy Hour and turn it into a social distancing virtual D.C. Unity & Thanks Hour between 5-7pm. Take a moment on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook using the hashtag #UnitedforDC to thank those on the front lines in DC working to help all of us in the fight against coronavirus. Share a photo of you, your family, or something else that shows your pride as a D.C. resident (or ally) and give thanks to those working tirelessly to keep us safe, healthy, feed, etc.

Raise your D.C. Flag, or a glass, or a D.C. beer to say cheers to your friends, neighbors, and fellow denizens of D.C. who work hard to keep us safe and healthy! Use social media to show unity and pride in where we live and to give a word of thanks to those on the front lines of the fight against coronavirus whether it be the great workers at our hospitals, our first responders, teachers who are providing great virtual learning opportunities, grocery store employees, or some other person or group who deserve your thanks and ours.

Let’s take time this Friday evening to show we are all doing our part by staying home, donating to good organizations, and raising a glass or a D.C. flag to say thanks to those who deserve it and to show that we are all in this together, as Neighbors United for D.C. (and for Statehood).
