March for Statehoood: August 24th, 2013

Aug24_2013The DC Statehood Coalition is inviting all District citizens and statehood supporters from around the country to participate in a unique celebration August 21 – 28, when we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic 1963 March on Washington.   The week long program will feature many events, from forums and panel discussions to receptions and performances, with the high point being a march on the National Mall Saturday, August 24.

While the Mayor’s 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington Commemorative Committee will be organizing official events, the DC Statehood Coalition will work independently and with a specific focus on DC statehood.  We will organize public events that are free or low-dollar.  Our top priority will be a DC march for statehood that will join the larger march on the National Mall.

The DC Statehood Coalition would like to engage District citizens from every neighborhood, and we encourage YOU to organize people from your neighborhood or civic group to participate as a community partner of the DC Statehood Coalition.

Please contact keshinil (at) yahoo.com for sign-up as a participant or for more information.

* The DC Statehood Coalition was founded in 2012 by ACLU of the Nation’s Capital, DC for Democracy, Stand Up for Democracy/Free DC, Neighbors United for DC Statehood, and other organizations to work for statehood.  We work closely with the Shadow Delegation as well.  Feel free to visit our website: http://newcolumbiavision.org/home0.aspx.
