Our neighboring legislators on the Prince Georges County Council deserve a big THANK YOU for passing a resolution in support of Statehood. As DCist noted in their piece, the District spent a lot of money trying to convince New Hampshire and Florida to no avail but PG stepped up. What’s great about this story is that it wasn’t about a big entourage or a flashy 3 hour media event it was simply that they knew the issue from talking with their neighbors and their neighboring legislators and felt it was the right thing to do. For more details read the Washington Times article on the resolution.
For those interested this is a great opportunity to now call or write Congresswoman Donna Edwards and urge her to follow the lead of the PG County Council and sign-on as a cosponsor to H.R. 265, the New Columbia Admission Act. Call Congresswoman Edwards office at (202) 225-8699 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org and urge her to “follow the lead of the Prince George’s County Council and sign-on as a cosponsor to H.R. 265.”
