Just Say No to Darrell Issa!

Congressman Darrell Issa has offered a bill in the House to grant the District limited autonomy over its budget. Basically, the District would finally have control over its local budget except for its ability to fund abortion services. This is similar to how Congress intruded into our budget in April sparking outrage by District citizens and elected officials. Congressman Issa is shrewd and calculating and the Mayor, the City Council, and Eleanor Holmes Norton should all reject his plan. This is the same matter which dozens of people were arrested over, its our money and we should have control over how it’s spent. This year, Issa and others have chosen to focus on how we fund abortions what will it be next year: gun laws, environmental regulations, gay marriage, or some other issue that’s popular in their home districts far far away?

The Mayor should loudly say no to this crummy deal and be consistent with the reasons why he and others were arrested last year. Darrell Issa says that it is an ‘autonomy’ bill but it has restrictions on it which defeats the purpose of using that word. District citizens should see this as it is: as another Congressional slap in the face that demonstrates that Statehood is our only answer to stopping this congressional madness.

Please join our movement. Write the mayor and tell him to reject this deal and write Darrell Issa and tell him to worry about his own congressional District. To join the movement or to find out more information email us at unitedforstatehood@gmail.com
